Van Tran Announces Race for Board of Equalization
Former Assemblyman Brings Strong Record of Fighting for Taxpayers
(ORANGE, CA) – Today, former Assemblyman Van Tran announced his candidacy for the California Board of Equalization’s 4th District, a seat Michelle Steel will be vacating next year due to term limits.
“I have spent my entire public service career fighting on behalf of taxpayers, promoting small business and streamlining the size of government. The Board of Equalization will need a voice that speaks for the taxpayers and small business owners, who make up the economy of California,” commented Tran. “As a City Councilman and Assemblyman from Southern California, I was proud to serve as a strong voice for California taxpayers and their families. And on the BOE, I will continue to serve as a champion of California taxpayers, implementing their wish to cut waste and control run-away state government spending.”
Van Tran was first elected to the State Assembly in 2004, becoming the first Vietnamese-American in the nation to serve in any state legislature. While in the Assembly, Tran was appointed as an Assistant Republican Leader and served on a number of influential committees including, Business & Professions, Banking & Finance, Utilities & Commerce, Government Organization, among others. He also served as Chairman of the Select Committee on International Trade. During his six years in the State Assembly, Tran cultivated a consistent voting record as a strong fiscal conservative, consistently earning “A”-Ratings from local and state taxpayer advocacy groups.
“California requires a new paradigm
shift to fix age old problems. I know I can provide those
solutions. I don’t want to get elected or sit in office doing
things the same old way,” added Tran. “I’m looking to bring that
entrepreneurial, can-do perspective to the BOE. Fighting for
California taxpayers and being a voice for small business will be my
first priority.”
Since leaving the Legislature in 2010, Tran has returned to private legal practice and business consulting in Orange County. Along with his wife, Cindy, the Trans have two young children, Alex (6 yrs.) and Sophie (5yrs.).
The BOE’s 4th District encompasses a large portion of Southern California, including all or most of the counties of Orange, Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino, and Imperial, comprising of nearly 10 million residents.
